About artist filmmaker Helen Nias

Based in Sydney, artist filmmaker Helen Nias creates short experimental films to discover and understand more about the world and minds we inhabit. She is constantly fascinated by temporal and spatial perceptions; the differences between dreams and reality; how we perceive these experiences in the moment and through our memories; and our relationship with the future in an ever changing world.

In her short films and videos, Helen experiments with and utilises a range of techniques including photogram animation, analogue film (super 8, 16mm), analogue and digital video, and animation of photo prints and digital stills. Through this she hopes to illustrate and evoke small insights, sentiments and contradictions of life.
